MƏFAM Opening Ceremony at Khazar University
On November 19, 2019, an opening ceremony for MƏFAM (Mövlana Ədəbi Fəlsəfi Araşdırmalar Mərkəzi – Mevlana Center for Literary Philosophical Studies) was held at Khazar University’s Neftchiler campus. The organizer of MƏFAM is Khazar University and sponsor is NAB Holding. The main purpose of establishing the Center is Mawlana Jalaladdin Rumi’s proper presentation to Azerbaijani public, conducting research on his philosophy and works in the field of literature as well as activities in other fields, the establishment of cooperation between universities, institutes, libraries, educational centers and literary research centers both within and outside the country.
Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Associate Professor Irada Khalilova, Rector of Khazar University, and Shahram Oromi, NAB Holding Vice President, as well as Khazar University staff and well-known guests, poets, singers, and musicians participated in this event.
Professor Hamlet Isakhanli opened the event delivering an extensive speech and gave the stage to Mr. Shahram Mohaghegh Oromi (speeches published on pages 22-25 of the Journal).
After the speeches, the Agreement of Collaboration was signed between Khazar University and Nab Holding.
The event continued with the recitation of Mevlana’s poems accompanied by music.
At the end, the MƏFAM logos were presented and a preliminary selection was conducted.
“Love in Nabati’s Oeuvre” Presented by Khosrov Sartipi and Initiated by MAFAM
On January 15, 2020, the event entitled “Love in Nabati’s Oeuvre” presented by Khosrov Sartipi, a poet, writer, and years-long scholar of Nabati’s legacy, was held at Khazar University’s Marble Hall, upon the initiative of Mawlana Literary-Philosophical Research Center (MAFAM).
The event was attended by the Khazar University Leadership and staff, students, prominent representatives of science and art of the country, and guests.
Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University, Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, opened the event and emphasized the special place of Nabati in Azerbaijani literature. After reciting a few verses from the poet’s poems, he spoke about the great role of Khosrov Sartipi in the study of the Nabati’s legacy and gave the floor to the guest.
Khosrov Sartipi, 30 years-long scholar of Nabati’s legacy, began his speech with the Abulqasim Nabati’s ghazal and greeted the participants. In his lecture on Nabati, a prominent representative of the nineteenth-century Azerbaijani literature, Khosrov Sartipi elaborated on the extensive glorification of the love theme in Nabati’s creativity, reciting examples from his poems, in the form of both the classical and ashig poems. He finished his speech with a poem written for Nabati.
At the event, the poets recited poems they dedicated to Vahid Chamanli and Ilham Gahraman Nabati. Honored Art Worker Agil Malikov recited several ghazals from Nabati, being accompanied by music. Mahsati Jabbarova, the soloist of the State Academic Philharmonic named after Muslim Magomayev, Khazar University teacher and ashig Ramin Garayev, performed songs from Nabati’s poems. People’s Artist Alim Gasimov performed an example of mugham over the Nabati’s ghazal.
The concert program was also presented by participation of the prominent Iranian artist Vadud Muazinzadeh, Tohid Novruzi, Mehdi Jannat Fard and Azerbaijani artists Elya Deniz and Mahta Behnam.
Presentation of MAFAM to the Public
On December 20, 2019, a public presentation of the Mawlana Literary and Philosophical Research Center (MAFAM), which began its activity upon the joint arrangements of Khazar University and “NAB” Holding, was held within the Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi’s commemoration week at Khazar University Marble Hall.
The event was attended by Khazar University Leadership and staff, students, country’s prominent representatives of science and art, and guests.
Opening the event, Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, spoke about the goals and objectives, significance of the establishment of MAFAM.
While delivering their statements, Associate Professor Jihan Ozdemir, Director of Yunus Emre Institute, Ganira Pashayeva, journalist, poet, public figure, welcomed the establishment of MAFAM at Khazar University and expressed confidence that it would play a major role in the formation of national-moral values.
The event was followed by an interesting concert program. The musical composition based on the lyrics by Nasimi was performed with the participation of Alim Gasimov, people’s artist, and Fargana Gasimova, honored artist, together with the University’s Chorus team, followed by their duet rendition of the song “Kor ərəbin mahnısı” (“Song of the Blind Arab”) from the “Sheikh Senan” verse play by Huseyn Javid, accompanied by Khazar University Chamber Orchestra (Artistic Director Zulfiyya Sadigova, Head of Music and Fine Arts Department, honored teacher, professor, pianist). David Azad, who is known for his knowledge of Iranian and Turkish folk music, lecturer on Iranian music at Oxford University and who delivers master classes, performed songs accompanied by his orchestra. Khazar University girls’ dance group was also presented to the participants.
